My name's Aileen Carruthers, a self-taught artist living in rural Lanarkshire.  I work from home, and also attend The Corra Linn Studio, owned by artist Veronica Liddel.  I am also a member of the Royal Scottish Academy and the Scottish Art Circle.

I work in most mediums, but mainly acrylic on canvas, although two recent commissioned portraits gave me the opportunity to get back to working in pencil and pastel, which was nice.

My work is pretty diverse; earlier paintings being mainly representation of emotions.  Having had anorexia since my late teens, I wanted to (and benefited from) expressing the complex emotions through art - much easier than trying to verbalise them!                      I love bold and contrasting colour, which I use in my landscape and floral pieces, and have recently completed a series of  8 paintings of endangered/protected wildlife - however will probably add to it.
